I've been way too devout in my postings of late. So here I've decided to list my nicknames for various people. In general, all primates of the Eastern Orthodox Church get a nickname, usually based on a diminutive of their nom de religion. Most are left out because they don't get much press or I haven't found a suitable moniker yet:
Bart = His All Holiness BARTHLOMEW, Archbishop of Constantinople and New Rome, Ecumenical Patriarch
Pete =His Beatitude PETROS VII, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa
Iggy = His Beatitude IGNATIUS IV, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East
Lexy = His Holiness ALEKSII II, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus
Hermie = His Beatitude HERMAN, Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All America and Canada
The Blessed Che of the RevolutionWe're still looking for other amusing "faux saints" or "anti-saints". During Bent we decided that for his contributions to acetic cuisine George Washington Carver should get the divine nod: St. George the Goober.
Holy Joe the Gulagmeister
Basically, I find the idea of "Welcome to St. George the Goober Orthodox Church!" hilarious. And the Blessed Che already has an icon....
